Big River and Salmon Creek Forests

The Conservation Fund works at the interface of economic development and environmental protection. For more than 20 years, our approach has focused on collaboration, rather than confrontation, to develop solutions to the nation’s most complex environmental challenges, including major changes that have enveloped the forest products industry. With millions of acres of forestland trading hands in the last year and 20 million acres slated for sale by 2030, many of the nation’s resource-based communities are at a crossroads.

The Conservation Fund has been at the forefront of forestland conservation through sustainable forestry. By taking this approach, the Fund is demonstrating that sustainable forestry can be used as an effective tool to protect water, wildlife and jobs.

Adirondack State Park, NY

In one of the largest land conservation projects in New York state history, the Fund and its partners protected 257,000 acres of forestland - conserving sensitive wildlife habitat, protecting water quality and benefiting the Adirondack Region’s economy. Read more>

Garcia River Forest: A New Future in Carbon

In 2004, the 23,780-acre Garcia River Forest became California’s first large nonprofit-owned working forest, and in February 2008 became one of the first forests – and the largest – to receive verification of its carbon offsets by the California Climate Action Registry. Read more>

Middle Neches Forestlands, TX

In one of the largest, most complex forestland projects in the Texas history, The Conservation Fund and Renewable Resources, LLC, joined forces to acquire and conserve 33,000 acres of working forestland from International Paper. Read more>

Woodbury and Hamilton Ridge Forestlands, SC

The largest habitat conservation purchase in South Carolina's history was completed with the acquisition of 39,000-acres of working forestland, recreational lands and wildlife habitat by the State of South Carolina, The Conservation Fund and The Nature Conservancy. Read more>
