Buck Vaughan

Buck is the Director of Forestry for The Conservation Fund’s Working Forest Fund program. In this role, he leads the acquisition efforts and oversees both the forest management and analytical teams. He is an expert in forestland acquisition, specializing in valuation modeling and timberland market analysis for the program’s forestland acquisitions.

With a graduate background in operations research, Buck is adept at addressing emerging forestry issues such as carbon sequestration, biodiversity, species and wetland mitigation, and other ecosystem services. He joined The Conservation Fund in 2005 as the manager of the Palmetto-Peartree Preserve, a 12,000-acre red-cockaded woodpecker mitigation bank in eastern North Carolina. Since then, Buck has been instrumental in helping the Working Forest Fund acquire over 1 million acres of forestland across the United States for permanent conservation.

Buck is a registered forester in North Carolina and an active member of the Society of American Foresters. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management and a Master of Forestry from North Carolina State University.
