Tonia Lorenz

Finance Manager

Tonia Lorenz is the Finance Manager for the Working Lands line of business at The Conservation Fund. Her focus is on collaborating with field staff and partners in Finance to ensure effective financial management and compliance with accounting and organizational standards. She supports ongoing training efforts and provides a vital linkage between program, development and accounting staff. Tonia coordinates preparation of the annual budget for the Working Lands LOB and monitors progress against budget. She provides specialized reporting and analysis to program directors and project managers. Tonia oversees project structure and maintains familiarity with real estate deal flow to help inform the transaction forecast. Lastly, she supports the Capital Investments team with new program implementations and financial analysis, among other activities.

Tonia has an MBA and began her career in the high-tech, for-profit world as a financial analyst for Advanced Micro Devices. Thirteen years in, she realized she wanted her work to be more mission-based and accepted a position with The Nature Conservancy, which aligned with her passion for nature and the environment. Thus began her nonprofit career in the environmental sector. Serving as the Texas BU Finance Manager for five years, followed by HQ Finance Trainer for about four years, Tonia gained great experience before accepting a new opportunity with the Fund in 2022.

Tonia’s husband is a native Bavarian German and dual citizen of the U.S., and they have two teenaged children. When Tonia is not working, she enjoys jogging, dancing or taking a barre class. She loves to travel and is always happy to talk about trips taken. Tonia also loves word games and board games with her family, as well as movies, live performance theater and live music (she does live in the live music capital of the world, after all!).
