Climate & Clean Energy
Land conservation is central to our fight against climate change, and our shift to a clean, sustainable and renewable energy economy. That’s why The Conservation Fund has made enabling the energy transformation a central part of our conservation vision.
Advancing The Clean Energy Economy
For 170 years our nation’s energy policy was buried deep underground, fueled by things that happened 250 million years ago. But we know that in the future, our energy policy will be driven by what happens on the land, not under it – things like wind and solar and the transmission capacity needed to deliver renewable energy to market.
It’s a big job. More than a million miles of new transmission lines will have to be built in the next 30 years. Over 65,000 miles of new pipelines to transport carbon dioxide to underground storage sites have to be constructed. Millions of acres of land will need to be dedicated to wind farms and solar fields.
The scale of the infrastructure we need to advance the transition to a clean energy economy is significant, and TCF believes that land conservation is squarely in the middle of it. TCF’s approach to conservation represents a smart way to secure the land on which our new clean energy policy can be built.
Mitigation Solutions
We understand that balancing development with sound environmental practices is essential for America’s prosperity. We provide mitigation solutions that open the way for tomorrow’s economy while protecting high-priority wildlife habitat, clean water and recreation areas.
