Land Conservation

America’s gift to the world has been the idea that the public should share in the benefits of our nation’s vast and diverse landscapes. The national park was an American invention. But America’s commitment to creating and preserving land for public benefit is becoming harder to fulfill.

Advancing Land for Public Good

Majestic national parks, vast public grazing lands and farmlands, urban and suburban parks, wildlife refuges and national forests all contribute to the lives we enjoy as Americans and to our national livelihood.  But adding to these lands is a challenge. Governments, state or local land trusts and community planners are not equipped to acquire land when it comes onto the market. They can lose out to private developers and speculators. Opportunities can be lost forever.

This is where The Conservation Fund makes a unique and vital difference. With our resources and our team of land-transaction specialists, we can move quickly to secure at-risk land before it is gone forever. That creates time to shape a permanent conservation solution a solution that works for nature and people, uniting public economic and environmental priorities and achieving results that benefit both.

Over four decades, The Conservation Fund has purchased, protected and passed on more than 9 million acres of land, making the nation stronger and more prosperous and improving the lives of all Americans.
