Gary Sullivan

State Director, Montana, Conservation Acquisition

Gary Sullivan was born and raised on the Chesapeake Bay of Maryland before heading west where he graduated from Colorado State University with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Wildlife Biology and Botany.

He started as a volunteer intern during college for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service where he worked for nearly 35 years in various management positions within the National Wildlife Refuge System at field offices located in Colorado, Kansas and Montana. He spent the last 20 years working as the Realty Supervisor in charge of the Service’s land acquisition program in Montana, where he protected over 325,000 acres across the state. He focused on landscape level projects to protect private lands with conservation easements in collaboration with local communities, stakeholders and NGO partners.

Gary retired at the end of 2017 and started working for the Fund on March 1, 2018 as the Senior Field Representative for Montana and the Northern Great Plains (SD, ND and NE).
