Jeffrey Liebert Joins The Conservation Fund as Head of Capital Investments

New Role Focuses on Building Partnerships and Innovative Financial Solutions to Meet America’s Conservation Challenges

ARLINGTON, Va. The Conservation Fund (TCF) is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Liebert has joined the organization as Head of Capital Investments. In this new role, Liebert will lead TCF’s impact investment and capital formation initiatives. His work will include developing innovative financial solutions and building a constituency of mission-aligned funding partners to scale TCF’s proven model for conserving America’s lands and watersheds.

For nearly four decades, TCF has been at the forefront of innovating new opportunities to finance land conservation. From being an early pioneer in the nation’s first carbon market in California, to establishing one of the country’s top-rated Community Development Financial Institutions, to issuing the first green bond for conservation, TCF is leading the creation of new financial instruments and vehicles to accelerate conservation and economic development in America.

“If America is to meet our land conservation, biodiversity, and energy transition goals, we will need even more creative and efficient means of delivering capital,” said TCF president and CEO Larry Selzer. “Jeffrey is a proven leader in conservation finance and impact investing and is the ideal person to drive TCF’s ambition for conservation impact to the next level.

Liebert brings valuable entrepreneurial and public-private sector experience to his new role, including championing ESG, fundraising, impact investing, environmental commodity monetization, and blended finance initiatives. He has worked at the International Finance Corporation’s Environmental Finance division; founded Verdeo Group, one of the first carbon offset project development companies in the U.S., and founded and served as Managing Partner of the impact investment asset manager Gazelle Finance. Liebert also co-founded and was a board member of The Taimen Fund, a conservation organization that merged with the Wild Salmon Center in 2023. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Tufts University and an MBA in finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

“TCF has a proven track record executing innovative conservation deals working closely with local partners in all fifty states,” said Liebert. “I’m excited to join TCF to help scale its model to reach a broader group of mission aligned investors for even greater conservation impact.”
