North Carolina

Introduction

From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Outer Banks, North Carolina offers a stunning and complex natural landscape of mountains, forests and coastal plains. Our work in the state supports local ecosystems by backing agricultural economies, creating equitable access to green space, and conserving critical bodies of land and water for partners and Indigenous communities.

Coharie Tribe and the Great Coharie River

The Coharie River has long served as the lifeblood of the Coharie tribal community. We provided small grants to equip young tribal members with environmental job skills to remove beaver dams and debris in order to reopen the river for fishing, traditional ceremonies and kayaking.
